The Open Shelter is so grateful for our decades long partnership with See Kids Dream. See Kids Dream’s mission is to empower youth with the skills, motivation, and confidence to make our world a better place. No greater example of that was the Mini Leaders Of Tomorrow Showcase in which students ranging from Pre-K to the 4th grade interviewed various non-profits, and chose which ones to support with projects that showcased empathy, compassion, leadership, and working together.

Students met with Resource Development Coordinator Harry Yeprem and they asked him many questions about how The Open Shelter helps homeless and marginally housed men, women, and children in our community. He also showed them the many items we provide to help those we serve SURVIVE.
We were overwhelmed with joy when we were told that many of the classes chose to support The Open Shelter by making and providing snack bags, placemats for meal settings, and decorated lunch bags to make things brighter for the men, women and children we serve.

We then were invited to the Mini Leaders of Tomorrow Showcase where the students presented their projects along with displays that detailed why they chose their project, how they did their project, and what they felt as they did their project.

Some students even created a poem about their project!
It is so heart warming to see these students learning about empathy, compassion, philanthropy, and caring in today’s world. Thank you to Brenda, Vada, Seville, and everyone at See Kids Dream for allowing The Open Shelter to be a part of this important program. Also, a HUGE thank you to all of the teachers who allowed us to share about The Open Shelter to their students.
But most importantly, thank you to all of the students who took the time and used their talents to make a difference for those we serve.
