The Open Shelter was honored to participate in the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association Charity Night at Eldorado Scioto Downs.
We were part of 10 charities that were selected. Each charity was paired with a horse for that night’s 8th race. The winning charity would receive $10,000, with second place getting $5000 and third place receiving $3000!
The Open Shelter was paired with “Got Your Moves”, who started in the first position, on the rail.
Executive Director Sheli Mathias, Deputy Director Solomon Dean, Resource Development Coordinator Harry Yeprem and his wife Beth were invited to this wonderful event. Everyone enjoyed a delicious meal provided by Eldorado Scioto Downs in their Three Diamonds Room.
We were treated to a starting gate car ride, an on air interview to share about The Open Shelter to all in attendance at Eldorado Scioto Downs, and even got to visit “Got Your Moves” in the paddocks at Eldorado Scioto Downs.
“Got Your Moves” gave it a good try, but unfortunately he was unable to finish in the top 3. But, it still was a great evening, as each charity left with at least $2000! So we still raised funds for our mission of “Staying Behind With Those Left Behind”.
Thank you to Renee Mancino, Kim Poma, Frank Fraas, Scott Mogan and Linda Nance of the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association; Amy Ankerson, Jason Roth, and Patrick Mullen of Eldorado Scioto Downs; our host David Staats and of course, to our horse, “Got Your Moves”.
